We began working with Legal Sea Foods in 2004, and for the last decade and beyond have had the pleasure of partnering together on a variety of digital projects and improvements with this seafood industry leader.
The Challenge: FishNet
Building powerful web-based applications that last
Legal Sea Foods’ first intranet was built with a department-centered structure encompassing 21 departments and 35 locations, making it difficult to navigate and inefficient for their needs. It needed to be completely restructured and taken down a user-centered path to provide more value.
We began with a card sorting exercise, a research method for discovering how people understand and categorize information. Through this exercise, we were able to identify common clusters and intuitive labels so we could organize information into groups that aligned logically with the LSF team’s mental models.
The resulting FishNet tool united departments into a single, customized, streamlined system. We built a full-service communications hub enabling paperless interdepartmental communication and paperwork processing, and a dashboard for employees to quickly navigate integrated HR information.
Not only have these forms and documents been brought online, but internal training videos can be viewed, tracked, and managed in the intranet’s media player, and each restaurant location can easily create, save, and share showcase menus that are consistent with the LSF brand.
