The Ultimate Fighting Championship transformed from a niche combat sport into a global entertainment phenomenon. Getfused partnered with UFC and its parent company Zufa to build the digital infrastructure that supported this explosive growth, from high-traffic web platforms to fan engagement apps to commercial pay-per-view systems, helping the organization scale until its $4 billion acquisition.

Every time The Ultimate Fighter aired or a major fight went live, UFC’s digital platforms faced crushing traffic that would take down most systems. The organization needed partners who understood high-volume traffic, the unique demands of the MMA industry, and could help them scale globally while protecting their content from piracy. We built UFC a robust digital infrastructure with sophisticated caching networks and security systems designed to handle fight-night traffic spikes. We developed the UFC Fan App to deepen engagement with their passionate fanbase. We also built out their commercial pay-per-view systems, creating the infrastructure for sports bars across the country to legally broadcast events. To protect their content, we helped their piracy team by becoming one of the first companies to tap into the Twitter firehose, generating leads on venues illegally showing UFC content.

Our partnership extended far beyond core platform development. We supported UFC’s expansion into the UK and Brazil markets. We helped optimize their analytics and provided strategic guidance on organizational changes to support growth. We worked across the broader MMA ecosystem as well, partnering with affiliated brands like Xyience energy drinks and Tapout Clothing, essentially owning the digital side of the mixed martial arts industry. The quarterly Getfused dinners with key UFC personnel became legendary, and our yellow Getfused shirts could be spotted in the Zufa gym for years.
