News - Weston Middle School Site Receives Award

October 14, 2009 - There are over 100 million websites in the world, serving a wide range of purposes from sales vending to communication tool. Most school districts use them. The Weston Public Schools’ website had over 398,212 visitors to the site during 2008-2009.

Last year the district focused on improving the usability and predictability of the school site by partnering with Getfused. This was part of the work completed by the Superintendent’s Committee on Communication. “We want parents and the community to find our websites helpful in learning about our schools and programs, and easy to use in locating specific and timely information as well as curriculum or student achievement data. Each school maintains its own site, utilizing district guidelines and faculty input. We are very proud to announce that the Middle School was just selected by the organization known as MASSCUE (Massachusetts Computer Using Educators) as having the best school website in the state”, Cheryl R. Maloney, Superintendent.

The award, known as a Webbie, will be presented at the annual MassCUE conference, which has grown so large over the past few years that it is being held at Gillette Stadium. Receiving this level of recognition is a very significant accomplishment. Among the categories in the rubric are functionality, user interface, safety and security, and universal design.
